Hamburger Steak with Creamy Onion Gravy

This hearty and comforting dish features juicy hamburger steaks smothered in a rich, creamy onion gravy. Perfect served with mashed potatoes and your favorite veggies, it’s a meal that’s sure to satisfy!

Ingredients:

For the Patties:

  • 3 tablespoons cooking oil (canola or vegetable)
  • 1 ½ pounds 80/20 ground chuck
  • ¾ cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon Tiger Sauce, hot pepper sauce, or to taste (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ to ½ teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
  • ⅓ cup all-purpose flour (for coating the patties)

For the Gravy:

  • 1 large Vidalia or sweet onion, halved and sliced (about 3 cups)
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup water
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon seasoned salt, or to taste
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, or to taste
  • ½ tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon browning & seasoning sauce (like Kitchen Bouquet, optional)
    1. In the same skillet, add the sliced onions. Cook over medium heat, stirring regularly, until the onions are soft and lightly caramelized, about 8-10 minutes.
    2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the beef broth, water, ¼ cup flour, seasoned salt, black pepper, Worcestershire sauce (if using), and browning sauce (if using) until smooth.
    3. Pour the mixture into the skillet with the onions, stirring constantly. Cook until the gravy begins to thicken, about 3-5 minutes.2 cups sliced mushrooms (optional)
