  • Fever
  • Rapid swelling or spreading redness
  • Pus or fluid drainage
  • Severe pain or tenderness
  • Hair loss around the bumps
  • Your child seems unusually tired, irritable, or unwell

Urgent care or an emergency department can evaluate scalp infections quickly if needed.

Trust Your Instincts

Parents know when something isn’t right. If the bumps look extremely painful, worsen quickly, or your child is clearly distressed, it’s okay to seek care sooner — even if that means calling the pediatrician’s office to request an urgent slot or visiting urgent care.

Waiting is hard. Worry is normal. But acting cautiously, keeping your child comfortable, and knowing when to escalate care are the right steps.

A Gentle Reminder

Online advice can help you prepare — but it can’t replace a medical exam. A healthcare professional can identify the cause and start the right treatment, often bringing relief much faster than expected.

You’re doing the right thing by paying attention and asking questions. Help is coming — and in the meantime, your care and concern already make a difference. 💛
